Today

Today is the anniversary of one of the defining moments in the history of England and English and thus, by extension, all the English speaking countries - and also America.

On 28th September we remember the battle of Senlac Hill, without it we would all speak very differently.

5 careful considerations:

You would be right except none of you would have survived the famine. All of those farm animals would still be waiting in the fields to be changed from cows, pigs and chickens into lovely beef, pork and poultry. Even the deer would have been safe not having become venison under Norman arrows.

I will confess to having to look this one up.

Don't be silly, we already do all speak differently ;-)

I'm confused, and obviously I am ignorant, but do we celebrate the French victory? And why do we celebrate now if the battle was on October 14th?

'cause ya'll was Catholic then and the pope changed the calendar when they discovered leap year. It is the same reason why the Novembrists celebrate in October. The Russians were just a couple of hundred years late.
