When we were kids the market traders from South London would organise seaside trips to Margate on a Charabanc.
There were frequent stops for refreshments and they would make chalk marks on the tyres and bet on which chalk mark was on the ground.
Much lemonade, crisps, fish and chips and singing. Windy, wet, cold and lots of fun for us kids as we saw all the grown ups misbehaving, flirting and drinking.
Perhaps the driver broke the law and stopped at that very layby?
