Here ya go then - the scourge of teachers the length of the country, mobile phones, are set to take centre stage in teaching and learning! This report in the Guardian looks at a project being tried in Islington. Just another fad or a real opportunity for some "joined up" learning?

7 careful considerations:
Jeez! Last thing they need is another excuse for not doing their homework!
"Miss, miss; I got mugged for my mobile miss."
There seems to be a thought that technology is the answer to everything in education. In Japan - where technology rules - schools are still very traditional, with very little use of computers in class, but still anb extremely high rate of educational achievement. Then again, the highest rate of student suicide...
Rob - this is about refining the technology answer, though, isn't it? Arguably we've had 'technology' in schools since the first slates & inkwells....
I've had loads of email and invites to conferences and seminars re this sort of stuff, over the last few months. Some are calling it m-learning. I don't know why we keep putting letters in front of words - It implies that it is something completely different and separate from other forms of learning or whatever and seems to frighten people off. I think all the technology is bound to ( and should ) creep into everything we do over time. It's a natural progression and offers more variety, opportunities and scope. I only want to use these things where they are useful, appropriate or add something, though.
Hi Kat - I'm with you on adding the letters. It's rubbish and part of the "sound bite" world. Technology is only a tool isn't it? As our learned friend Bluefluff said, we've always used technology. And the history of education is as strewn with the wrecks of the failed ideas as it is illuminated by those which worked. I'm sure we can do something with this but I'm also sure it's not "The Answer" - but I may have misunderstood the question :-)
There ya go! My first email of the day includes a link to a pdf concerning the use of mobile phones. Yes, I have only just got up and no, I am not dressed. Not that you needed to know that - but just in the interest of the ongoing survey.
Just got up Kat??? Not dressed?????? What is this world coming to? :-)
