Cricket lovely cricket!

Wow! What a brilliant game, what a fantastic series. All to play for now at the Oval but we retake The Ashes if it starts raining now and doesn't stop until Christmas! Wahay! Anyone living under a rock or in a different country can check it out here.

7 careful considerations:

or in a different country

You may want to provide translations for such gems as:

Flintoff had no answer to the rapid Lee off-cutter which took the off-stump

&

a leg-side half-volley from Warne was enticing enough for Giles to clip through mid-wicket

Yup, I live under a rock ;-)

What's a wicket??

Wait, scratch that question, in 100 hundred words or less explain in plain simple english what the sport of cricket is all about. :)

Can't be done, I'm afraid. That's what makes it such a great sport - infinite complexity and subtlety, and the only sport that can go on for days and keep you absolutely riveted. Fantastic.

Apparently, in England, cricket is a "sport" involving a flat bat and ewoks and... Hell it doesn't matter as no one other than them knows what the bloody hell it is anyway.

Oh damn - I was just turning off the PCs when I saw this wonderful hostage to fortune! Right now England are playing Australia. Other top level cricketing nations include India, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, etc. I once catered for the Danish cricket team while they were on a tour of England.

Can anyone remember which countries are represented in the World Series? ;-)

Don't go bringing up baseball! I'm sure I have clearly stated on my blog a time or a million that ALL sports are a joke. So don't go thinking you're all smug by pointing out that the world series is played by the States only!! LOL

At least baseball I understand --- bunch of boys hitting a ball while other boys chase the ball and throw it.

Now explain cricket please! :)

I once tried to do the classic thing of explaining cricket to an American. I gave up when he couldn't get his head round the notion that matches could last five days, and that even then, there was every possibility that there wouldn't be a result.

Tee hee, maybe my Cricket Explained might help them then :-)
