Desert Island music

I should be finishing this marking but many of us know that anything is usually better than marking a difficult script so here's some thoughts on music for a desert island:
  • Dylan - Blood on the tracks
  • Dylan and the Band - Before the flood
  • Bowie - Live at the Towers
  • Sinatra - Live at the Sands
  • Lynard Skynard - One more from the road
  • Alice Cooper - From the inside
  • The Who - Who's Next
  • The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
  • Led Zepplin - Remasters (Okay I know it's a cheat as it's a compilation but it's my bloody list! :-))
  • Springsteen - Born to run
  • The Doors - LA Woman
  • Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
  • Steely Dan - Aja
  • Al Stewart - Year of the cat
  • U2 - Under a blood red sky
Writing this I realise that I really cannot go to this mythical desert islands because of all the music I've not put on the list - I've just quickly counted and there are over 200 cassettes, the same again in CDs and 60 LPs here and it would be easier to take them all and make sure I have a connection to Amazon or similar so that I can keep buying more so, sorry, if anyone thought you were getting rid of me - I ain't going!

12 careful considerations:

& a heavy silence fell....

Many of your choices are in my environment, but none are in my personal collection (though I may have had a 3rd hand tape of Sergeant Pepper at some time) several have been responsible for the recommendation of headphone use, & probably only Dylan would be on a wish list.

I've no doubt this marks me out as a philistine of some kind, but I can live with that :-)

No heavy silence here - not with Dylan wurbling along in the background! :-)

I did avoid mentioning any of what I understand is now called "art" music but I grew up calling classical.

No Meatloaf, Cher, Tina Turner, Fleetwood Mac, Roger Daltry or Buddy Holly???

Sorry - you have got The Who.

Meatloaf needs adding to the list and I'd have to take Rumours and possibly One of the boys. But I can cope without Cher (and her music! :-)). Anyway I'm not going Kat, not unless you'll come with me because you are always so organised and that's probably what I need.

Organised! Me! You must be joking. I can sometimes make it look as though I have got things sorted but in my own home I'm like a flapping bloody duck. ( Not always but time is rarely on my side. :-))

I can't go anywhere without all my books and my computer - You would have to help me carry them.

Now that sounds like a super job! I don't fancy the hill walking loaded down like a donkey but I'm okay on flat, made surfaces. I also have an estate car is it would help to leave some stuff in that - I could even put the roof rack and roof box back on, it's sitting in the garden on top of the log shelter right now and I've told my neighbours it's to be used as my coffin in the event that I croak it while living here.

kat said...

I misread that. I thought you said 'I'm sitting in the garden on the top of a log shelter right now'. I was going to come down there and coax you down.
:-)))

Let me know when you can get here and I'll go out there. It's so windy here right now that it's blowing dogs inside out and the rain is running parallel to the ground so I'll stay in the warm while you drive down :-)

It is a bit wet and windy here, but not as bad as that. Just looked at the weather forecast for Sunday as I am out walking for the day. Looks like it is going to brighten up.

What about Hendrix? All Along the Wastchtower would be useful on a desert island I would think :-)

Another reason I'm not going Pal ;-)

Just as well I suppose, there must be an awful lot of peeps on it by now! :-)
