Turner

So they planted a test unit in the sea so that they could collect wave data for six months - it lasted 48 hours. Now they've decided that building the real thing, Turner Contemporary, in the sea will cost a few bob more than the first quote. The latest estimate is £50m and the council have said that they don't think they can get that past the tax payers of Thanet. We will still get culture in Margate because they've decided to build the thing on land, on a car park, instead.

5 careful considerations:

I'm sure a building that shape would look better out at sea. Wasn't that what it was designed for?

I am sorry to say that I don't like it and if I lived in Kent and had loads of money I'd pay them to put it far out at sea.

Incredible, I research art history and this sort of bufoonery makes me despair, The Tate too I think... :-) I really like the tasteful layout of your blog.

flj - What can I say? Someone who knows art likes something I've put together - swoon! I'm a dyed in the wool technologist who knows how to make the background that colour (it's called "aliceblue" or #F0F8FF to those of us without soul) but I never feel that I know whether it should be that colour or any of the others in the tool bag. Writing this comment has got me thinking about a post I'm now going to make - thanks for getting my juices flowing :-) BTW - the reason it is that colour is partly pragmatic, pure white is a bad colour for the background on web pages as it's hard on the eyes, and partly romantic - "blue for a boy" and blue for Manchester City. I've continued that colour scheme through much of my web site and it seems (to me at least) nice and easy on the eye.

The ice bue works really well. I am going to adapt mine to an ice pink with a different header when I've got the time.
