Not afraid!

Anyone who hasn't visited the earlier link yet won't get this - basically that site is displaying images from loads of people, they have one thing in common - they say that people are not afraid. It's a response to the terrorist outrages in London and seems to be one of the positive aspects rather than a lot of the race hate being strutted elsewhere. Some of the images are very funny and others are very touching. Great image on ScaryCheri's blog too :-)

Or as one of the injured survivors puts it:

"We should only to be wary of the hate-filled, the nihilistic, the furiously angry who won't listen or engage. "

A positive & very moving account.

The folks at philosophy football have sent me this e-mail, which might reach a wider audience through your blog:

In addition to our Footballers and Philosophers ranges,
www.philosophyfootball.com has over the past few years produced shirts for causes we,
and many of our customers, support. We don't expect everyone to agree
with us each time, but we believe opposing war, campaigning against
fascism, defending the right to asylum, and raising funds for effective
humanitarian aid overseas are all important issues.

Last Thursday bombs went off within a mile of our office in East
London. Jacquie, who packs your shirts, was travelling to work past Liverpool
Street station. Mark, who co-founded the company, went through Kings
Cross less than an hour before the explosion. The victims could have been
any of us three million daily tube users. Many of our company's friends
from around the world anxiously emailed us to check we were OK.

Yes we are OK, but we also feel the need to respond, in the most
effective way we can, with a message reflecting  the horror and despair we
all feel at this time. Up on the site today - www.philosophyfootball.com
- is our CLEAN HANDS shirt. When Madrid was bombed hundreds of
thousands of Spaniards demonstrated with hands in the air, palms open. This was
to symbolise hands clean of terror and war, the Spanish understood the
need to break this cycle of action and reaction. Inspired by this, our
shirt shows a single hand, ranged around it the places of terror and
war, action and reaction. Ours is not a message of 'surrender' as some
politicians want to suggest, but one of solidarity and hope. We have to
break this cycle. On the sleeve we have printed 'Stop the War & Stop
Terror.

This is a NON PROFIT-MAKING SHIRT, HALF-PRICE, we want to get as many
distributed as fast as possible. Any profits will be donated to anti-war
causes . The shirt is available now, in sizes small to XXL.

Many thanks Rob - if it's okay with you I'm happy to make it a post rather than just leave it as a comment.

On IE you might need to add / at the end of Rob's URL... or go
direct to the Tshirt.

Rob said...

Yes - go direct, I'd say.

have you been able to get past the first page of pictures on the werenotafraid site?

It seems to be stuck in limbo still, but I want to make sure it's not in my settings.

I couldn't get on last night either - I'll have another look when I get to the office and let you know.

The site has probably been swamped - see BBC news story

Did you follow through and look at this selection? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4675027.stm :-)

I thought you'd like that :-)

I didn't spot it at first, the phone kept ringing and people were wandering in and I was actually doing some work! :-)
